Summary

Hoxxes IV is home to a variety of flora and fauna, and many of them pose a great threat to invaders. They are part of the reason why Deep Rock Galactic is the only mining corporation willing to operate on Hoxxes IV.

Most notable is a species known as Glyphids. They are similar to arachnids in appearance, have a variety of subspecies, and are extremely hostile. Glyphids can be encountered in small groups while roaming the caves, and periodically build up to attack in concentrated waves. When they decide to swarm the Dwarves, Mission Control will warn the players of the attack in advance.

Along with Glphyids there are various other species found on Hoxxes IV. Macteras are a winged species that primarily use ranged attacks while airborne. Naedocyte are a species similar to jellyfish, and serve as the airborne counterpart to Glyphid Swarmers. There are also a variety of creatures on Hoxxes IV that do not belong to any of the more commonly encountered species such as the Spitball Infector, Xynarch Charge-Sucker, Q'ronar Shellback, and Nayaka Trawler. While most of these creatures are hostile, there are a few that remain passive around the Dwarves.

Hostile creatures will only attack players, ignoring Bosco, M.U.L.E., BET-C, sentries, and the Minehead.

Scaling & Hazard Levels

In addition to increasing the number of enemies during the mission and swarms, the hazard level also increases

  • their health,
  • the damage they inflict on the player,
  • their movement speed,
  • their attack frequency, and
  • the speed of projectiles from ranged attacks (on higher difficulties).

Furthermore, additional players in the game will increase enemy

  • the number of enemies,
  • their resistance, and
  • the damage they deal.

The increased resistance of each enemy to damage is represented as eHP or effected Health Point, simplified as Health in this page. In reality, the creature’s health doesn’t change, but their resistance to damage increases with hazard level and the number of players. eHP is used instead as it’s more convenient to consider the creature having more health than the weapons doing less damage.

Hostile Creatures

Much of the fauna (and even some of the flora) on Hoxxes IV poses a threat to players.

Note that enemy damage and health varies based on difficulty level played in game.

Land Creatures

Glyphid

The Glyphid are arachnid creatures, all of them able to crawl along the walls and ceilings of caves. Thus, players are advised to not only look around them for threats but above them as well.

Trivia

  • Before Slashers and Guards were added, an elite version of the Glyphid Grunt called a "Veteran Warrior", existed from update 19 to 22. It had 50% more health than a Grunt and was almost identical aside from its reflective spike studded armor.
  • Before update 24 hotfix 7, Praetorian abdomen used to be designed to take 150% damage, but wasn't registered as a weakpoint for the purpose of weapon modifications (such as Hollow Point Bullets).
  • Naedocyte Shockers went through several different iterations. Shockers were originally introduced as the passive Cave Jellies in the Dense Biozone in Update 12, they were reworked and reintroduced as Naedocyte Shockers in Update 21, then were given new models in Update 23, and then passive Cave Jellies were reintroduced as a separate creature sometime between Update 23 and 24.
  • The Glyphid Crassus Detonator is a reference to Roman general and politician Crassus, who was known as one of the most wealthy men of his time. When his body was recovered by his enemies after a battle resulting in his death, they poured liquid gold into his mouth to taunt his wealth and greed.
