— Mission Control

Alien Eggs, usually referred to simply as eggs, are the primary objective in an Egg Hunt, as well as the "Collect Eggs" objective during Deep Dives. They are located hidden in the walls and a certain amount must be dug out and returned to the M.U.L.E. to count towards the mission objective. Each Alien Egg is visible on the Terrain Scanner, marked by an orange sphere.

Alien Eggs are heavy objects and must be picked up and carried by hand, or via Bosco. When carrying it, a dwarf cannot do anything but throw flares/throwables, ride ziplines, and move with a 25% speed penalty (Sprinting is also disabled). It can be dropped by switching weapons or using the Laser Pointer, it can also be thrown far away by holding the [FIRE] key ("Left Mouse Click" by default) before releasing it.

Extracting an egg from its membrane will cause the ground to shake, accompanied by an eerie, distant Glyphid scream. Shortly after, a horde of enemies will attack, sometimes triggering a Swarm.

The organic markings on the wall

Alien Eggs are large, olive-green ovoid eggs, wrapped in a pinkish-magenta ropey membrane. The eggshell has an irregular crack-like surface pattern, and the membrane around the egg resembles bulging veins. Each Alien Egg emits a white glow that is visible through thin walls.

Each egg is encased in a thick protective layer of dull pink organic material accompanied by spherical red orbs within the material. The organic material around the egg is roughly 15 meters in diameter.

Locations[]

Eggs can be found in any biome, whenever they are part of an objective.

Trivia[]

  • In the quote from the Salt Pits, as well as in one of PSA messages, "Glyphid omelettes" are mentioned, possibly hinting at the alien egg's purpose. This, however, could simply be a nickname for the food.
  • Eggs used to appear as a secondary objective on certain mission types.
  • During The Great Egg Hunt seasonal event, all Alien Eggs would be reskinned to resemble giant Easter eggs of various colors and patterns.
