The Mactera Bomber, the bloated, overweight cousin of the Mactera Spawn. It's a grotesque sack of flying slime, ponderously keeping itself aloft while only seeking to entrap any invaders in sickly, sticky goo before firing barbed, venomous darts at its stuck victims. Nothing good can be said about the Mactera Bomber, except for the fact that it has very obvious weak spots: The bulging and exposed slime sacks on its sides. Shoot these. Just...don't stand underneath when you do.

Combat

The Mactera Goo Bomber is an aerial enemy that lobs sticky goo at unsuspecting dwarves, reducing their movement speed and leaving them vulnerable to attacks from other creatures. It will typically fly in a curved pattern, circling a potential target until it stops to begin its firing process.

The Goo Bomber is highly susceptible to damage from its two slime sacs, which serve as its critical weakpoints. Each sac can sustain a certain threshold of damage—depending on the mission's Hazard Level—before breaking, after which it will no longer serve as a weakpoint.

Upon dying, the Goo Bomber will swirl uncontrollably until it hits the ground, leaving behind a pool of sticky goo. This effect can be negated by ensuring the bomber is eliminated with no intact weakpoints (slime sacs).

Variants

Glacial Strata Variant

The Mactera have managed to find a niche for themselves even in the frigid permafrost layers of Hoxxes, and the Mactera Frost Bomber is one such adaptation. Rather than the sticky, hot mess left by its cousin, the Frost Bomber entraps you in freezing globs of rapidly hardening foam instead. It's theorized the foam is actually a mass of microscopic, burrowing larvae, but any organic activity within it ceases as soon as those covered in it return to normal temperatures.

Tips

The M1000 Classic can destroy each slime sac on a Goo Bomber with a single focus shot on most Hazard Levels.

The Cryo Cannon and Cryo Grenade can permanently freeze a non-Glacial Strata Goo Bomber, causing it to fall to the ground until it breaks (eliminating it); this is particularly effective against groups of Mactera in close proximity to one another.

Multiple Goo Bombers can spawn when playing missions with the Mactera Plague Mutator on higher Hazard Levels, posing a greater threat of landing globs of sticky goo.
